Guinness Record

Once the commitment to break the
Guinness World Record was made, training sessions -
approximately 30 minutes each - were increased to four
times per week with the top jump bar gradually being
raised at 2 inch increments. Purina was informed of the
desire to have Cindy challenge the world record during
the weekend of the 2003 Purina Incredible
Dog Challenge National Finals being held at Purina Farms
in Gray Summit (St. Louis area) Missouri, on October 3rd
and 4th. Purina subsequently applied to Guinness for the
jump specifications and verification requirements.
When the information arrived, it
was discovered that the Guinness -sanctioned Free Style
High Jump consisted of a 2 foot wide spread jump. Up
until this point, all of Cindy's training had been with
the single bar jump used in the competition by Purina.
As a result, in order to challenge the world record
jump, Cindy would need to jump with the 2 foot wide
spread jump. This meant that Cindy needed to be
re-trained with a completely new jump apparatus in less
than 4 weeks time.
A new jump matching the Guinness requirements was built
in one day and Cindy's re-training began. Once again,
Cindy continued to amaze her trainers, changing her
jumping style for the new double bar spread jump by
instinctively adjusting her distance from the jump by
backing up until she felt that she had enough space
between her running start point and the actual jump
apparatus.
Off to St. Louis
On
September 30th, Cindy left for St. Louis. Cindy was
feeling great. The slight chill in the air was a welcome
change from the warm weather in Florida. On Friday
October 3rd, Cindy broke the world record high jump with
one double bar spread jump at a height of 64 inches and
another jump at a height of 66 inches. On Saturday
October 4th, Cindy participated in the Purina Incredible
Dog Challenge's high jump competition and won first
place with a record breaking 64 inches over the single
bar jump.
Three years later, Cindy
still had a passion for jumping. With this great
enthusiasm, we decided to have her break her own record.
In October 2006, she went back to St. Louis and at
the Purina Incredible Dog Challenge, Cindy again broke
her own record, with a jump of 68 inches!
